Goals:

Children develop social skills by having experiences with children their own age. Our curriculum helps children learn to feel comfortable in school and make friends. We also foster skills such as expressing thoughts, ideas and feelings and share with others.

We strive to help cultivate positive habits, values and attitudes. In turn, this helps develop independence, success, and self-control.

Number concepts, ABCs, auditory and visual discernment and language are paramount.

Various gym activites help our students increase their large and small muscle skills.

Learning is happening here through play!

We pride ourselves in providing hands on learning opportunities and experiences that foster success and independence.

Bethel UCC is dedicated to teaching children through a well rounded curriculum of art, music, language, mathematics, and physical fitness.

Methods:

Art materials provide a way for children to express thoughts and feelings that they are not prepared to verbalize. In addition many prereading skills are developed. Children learn the difference between colors. Such visual insight enables the discrimination between letter forms. Paint brushes and scissors help develop fine motor skills.

Not only do our students learn about musical instruments and rhymes, we sing about ABCs, numbers and left & right. Songs and rhymes are left brain activities, and develop memorization skills.

Our gymnasium is a favorite activity among our students. Full of age appropriate equipment, gym time helps to develop coordination and large motor control.

Games that involve creativity stimulate the right side of the brain. For example, blocks allow children to use imagination as they build their own sky-scrapers, jumbo jets, etc. When children create with blocks, they are estimating how much space they will need, and learn about balance as they classify blocks by size and shape.

In addtion to developing a love for books, stories introduce children to many different types of books and increases attention span. Listening skills are also enhanced.
